Respect of open spaces and of the inhabitants : this thought might appear obvious ; yet how many ecosystems are nowadays threatened by the Mass Tourism Industry, which shows so little concerns for the protection of what is nevertheless its raw material?
How many outstanding peoples silently witness foreigners’ intrusions characterised by both a lack of attention paid to the local inhabitants’ vital interests and a reluctance to share?
How many cultures become depraved to “folklore for brochures” in order to satisfy the owners of camcorders or other souvenir boxes, who “always want more for their money”?
We shall not forget that, whenever we discover new horizons, we are first and foremost the hosts of these men and women who welcome us, and we should seek not to destabilise their culture by imposing upon them our vision of the world.
At Rencontres au bout du monde, we strive to have them benefit from this encounter between our 2 distinctive worlds in the most possible equitable way, starting with the tourism inputs which act as a significant vector to sustainable development. We also make a point to always favour local interests and minimise the impact of our passing through.
